Did anyone think Ipswich should have had a penalty late on? The lineswoman was to blame?

Jewell comments?

It looked like a penalty. But Jewell's comments are completely uncalled for and hopefully some action will be taken against him.

stonewall pen for me. no need for that coment thou as i think ref was in a much better position then the lady lino!

but thats 4 defeats in a row for ipswich. he could lose his job so he has a right to be angry.

Thought it was unclear. Looked a pen at the game, but just got back and watched it again.
Can't see what the fuss is about.
Definitely not a 'stonewaller'
Tangle of legs for me.

Under floodlights, especially, I believe that the visiting side should play in a strip that is numerous "tones" different to the home side.

As we play in yellow etc when away, especially at night, I think at ground level (for officials) it would be easier to determine infractions from a distance, if there was a clear and decisive kit difference.

Tonight, if you were an official, the tones, and then the entanglements of similar toned kits makes your judgement more difficult.

Ipswich should have played in Pink or yellow imo :)

If we are being completely honest, it is a terrible decision.

Jewell may lose his job after arguably should have won and taken our home record, or at least drawn.

I do feel for him, though I am happy it happened against us.

Ref and lineswoman to blame though, and if you look at his comments, he actually says that, the media are standardly taking it out of proportion and making him look sexist.

“It wasn’t even debatable, it was a stonewall penalty, it’s a sending off, but he (referee Robert Lewis) didn’t give it. You better ask him – or her – why they didn’t.

That's exactly how I saw it **thumbup

At the end of the day, for most clubs......you get some calls in your favour and others will go against you

Nature of the beast

The refereeing up and down the country and at every game in all 4 Leagues leaves a lot to be desired anyway

Mancini was raving last night as Glen Johnson made a two footed studs up lunge on Lescott and got away with it

Yet Kompany had his appeal turned down and had the ban extended by a game

Too many inconsistencies

I think the FA just prefer a nice juicy racism scandal TBH

i agree with you guys who say some are given some are not, as long as thats your opinion when the decision goes against you. but like the rest of us football fans i dont think for one minute it will be. it will change to we were robbed, man utd would have got it . etc etc etc.

I think what he said WAS sexist to be honest, because he made an issue of her gender. I can see him getting into a bit of trouble about it.

"I think everyone to a man thought it was a penalty", Jewell said: "Unfortunately to every man, but not a woman. Although the referee didn't have a good view, I thought the lineswoman, or whatever she's called"

The above is a quote from jewel. If suarez got that hearty van and fine for racist comments he should get equal for these sexist comments. You could say you understand he is a bit miffed but that reaction is way ott

I saw SSN this morning though and he didn't say that, he said "everyone", not "every man". It's just SSN trying to make more of this than it is.

No penalty, Caldwell just stood his ground. No decision to be made by either official, sour grapes from Jewell because Ipswich played well and probably deserved something, but if they had been awarded that most on here would be complaining.

The BBC quote him as Everyman, not heard in myself.

As for the pen shout, I can't even remember seeing anything that looked like a disputed call let alone a nailed on one.

this is the quote on the BBC website
"To every man, but not a woman [it was a penalty]," he said when a journalist suggested "everyone to a man thought it was a penalty".

"Although the referee didn't have a good view, the lineswoman, or whatever she's called, had a great view."

I saw SSN this morning and although I wasnt paying that much attention it certainly sounded to me like he said "everyman in the stadium" sexist comment and Jewel should get in big trouble for it. As for the decision, well it was a close call , but you win some you lose some, how many times have we had stone wall pens waved away?.

I thought is was a penalty and seeing it when I got back I would be annoyed if it had been for us rather than against.

I agree about the kits to...us wearing Blue and them Black under our floodlights makes it much more difficult see. With all the laws on numbering, etc. on kits surely it wouldn't be too much to ask for home and away kits to be totally different. This is obviously why we don't see our away kit too often.

i cant beleve all the fuss about sexist comments. if he said everyman so what, its a figure of speech. i say to my team every night at work hi guys, but 3 of them are ladies but they dont take offence (cause i asked them) and insist i say hello guys and ladies. after watching football for 50 years its easy to say linesmen forgetting that one may be a lady but that dont mean i dis respect her. the world has gone pc mad.

Absolutely right - the world HAS gone PC mad!

But have you noticed, it's a very biased PC? It's okay for women to have a go about men, but not the other way around?

Nevertheless, Paul Jewell's comments were ill-advised, and he'll probably get into trouble.

Let's not start feeling sorry for Jewell. He's a bit of a numpty.

Is he a scouser. If so says it all really.

What a crass comment, so our army went to war against an oppressor just so they could do the same thing back home? Behave!

What we have here is soft totalitarianism..People afraid to say what they think..Sacked getting into "trouble" for going against the party line..Prison even..

It's all about control...
